Happy 3rd Birthday Kiddo,
This year we've decided you have too many toys and so we are not giving you any for your birthday. Instead we've signed you up for ballet. You are going to love it, I know because you tell me all the time "I'm gonna be a dancy girl" and you spend gobs of time in tutus prancing around the house performing pirouettes. Classes start in a week.

As I read this, I'm thinking "Whew...I didn't buy her a toy", but now I have the urge to go out and buy her a cute leotard and some tights!
Cute! My 3yo has been obsessed with the Nutcracker - in preparation for taking her to a performance, I bought the DVD of the New York City Ballet production. She has watched that, oh, 20 times since the week before Christmas. [I've now retired it for the year.] She knows the music, the characters, and the other night I caught her imitating the little Prince's pantomime in front of the TV. I think she may need dance classes soon! Hope your kiddo likes it!

some advice for the mama:
remind her that when her teacher corrects her it is the ultimate compliment, not a criticism.
remind her that dancing should be fun, but it is school.
remind her that ballet is one of the hardest things out there and to not give up.
remind her that achieving a goal for herself is the beauty of ballet - the performing and the costumes are perks.

I'm sad to say that Miss E did not like learning ballet despite my passion for it. She went to about four lessons and realised she wouldn't be prancing around in a sparkly pink tutu anytime soon and refused to go back :( I did ballet for 18 years so it was a heart breaking moment for me ... but I now realise she isn't my clone, which is very good!
I really hope Ella loves it though :)

Happy Birthday (belated) to the dancin' Emma - hope to catch up with the rest of you guys soon. Please tell her that some mommy you know saw a picture of her in her big beautiful chair and said that Emma was WAY more beautiful THAN the chair :)
