"Once again, I am not anti-Sanders. Though I know it clearly sounds like I am.
But hypocrisy is a huge pet peeve of mine and there's been a ton of it from his campaign and his supporters.
He walks on water and can do no wrong - ever, while she's basically Satan who's held to a standard unlike any other candidate in political history. Every single thing she's said or done is held against her without the slightest bit of context linked to it. Hell, even things her husband or President Obama has done SHE'S the one who's blamed for them.
Meanwhile, Sanders has several questionable votes on his record - but, eh, who cares? He voted for those things so he clearly has his reasons. Bernie never lies - he's the greatest human being who's ever lived... ever, ever.
He's a once-in-a-lifetime candidate!!
Here's the FACTS: He's a career politician who Politifact proves lies just about as often as Hillary Clinton, who's benefitted from being a political figure in a very tiny state where constituents don't really demand much from you.
Bernie Sanders would never be "Bernie Sanders" if he were a politician from New York, California, Florida or any number of other states where elected leaders are forced to make very difficult decisions.
He's benefitted from the fact that, in Vermont, you're dealing with a state the size of most mid-sized cities.
I live in Austin, TX - a city (not including the surrounding suburbs) that has over 250k more people than the entire state of Vermont - ONE CITY.
And if you don't think that benefits him immensely to say and do things others wouldn't be able to, you really need to learn a whole lot more about politics." - Allen Clifton

Then if you provide studies that debunk what they want to do, they simply cite their own findings (clearly biased findings) to dispute anyone who says their plans are unrealistic.
They complain about the same things: The establishment, the media, money in politics and claim that there's some mystical entity trying to "sabotage" their campaign. They also tend to try to discredit states that vote against them. To say nothing about their sudden whining about the primary rules they knew about going into this campaign.
And have you noticed how Sanders will NEVER apologize or say anything he voted on was wrong? Hmm, very Trump-like, isn't it?
Even when he was busted trying to "quote-unquote" Hillary Clinton during the "unqualified dust-up" - he admitted that he ASSUMED that statement based off a HEADLINE - and still never apologized for saying she claimed he wasn't qualified.
Break up the banks? Okay - how? Uh, well, you break them up - that's how.
How do you plan to pay for all of this? By my modest tax increases on the middle class and larger ones on the rich!
Well, then how come in Europe, taxes on the middle class are much higher than your promising? Uh, well, we need to catch up with the rest of the modernized world!
How do you plan to pass any of these big promises? A political revolution!
Well, sir, voter turnout is down and you're behind 2.4 million votes. Uh, um, political revolution! We won Utah, Wyoming and Idaho by YUGE margins - but those big wins by Clinton in the South don't count.
I'll be so glad when this is over. It's no wonder he's largely supported by young people who've probably been really emotionally involved in politics since a hashtag told them they needed to be.
I don't dislike the man, but the hypocrisy I see coming from his campaign is absurd.
Even tonight, after MONTHS of trying to paint Hillary Clinton as a shill for Wall Street, he couldn't name a single vote in her Senate career where she favored the big banks.
Not.One.Single.Vote.
One would think a candidate who's spent so much time undermining her integrity would know her voting record pertaining to Wall Street up and down. Yet, he couldn't name a single thing.
Oh, but speech transcripts!
Who gives a damn? I'm sure she wrote a speech geared to tell them exactly what they wanted. President Obama took millions from Wall Street and passed Dodd-Frank. Though that apparently doesn't seem to matter. Why should it? It doesn't fit the "Clinton is the devil" narrative being pushed by the Sanders acolytes.
When it comes to these pro-Sanders radicals, they don't care one bit about the facts. They want to hate Clinton, cheer for him and reality doesn't matter one damn bit.
A supporter of Sanders basically called Clinton a "Wall Street whore." Well, if a Trump surrogate said that, we would be losing our minds over how that kind of language is linked to Trump's attitude.
Well, I'm sorry, Sanders' rhetoric against Clinton has basically been calling her exactly what that person said for months. Has he said those words directly? No - but it's clear that person felt comfortable enough to say it based on the attitude Sanders has displayed towards Clinton.
Who won tonight's debate? Clinton. Why? Because when Sanders was asked to name ONE thing Clinton voted on to favor Wall Street - he couldn't do it. And if you've made a massive part of your campaign how "much of a sellout to Wall Street my opponent is," yet you can't name a single thing she voted on that favored Wall Street, you lose the debate.
I hope Clinton wins by 10+ points Tuesday just to put an end to this primary. It's already pretty much over, but apparently math and reality doesn't matter.

Madness
In America there are 112.6 guns per 100 people.
At 11:30am today, someone was shot on middle school grounds in my city. The injured kid was then pulled into the school and a lock down ensued. My kindergartner has practiced a hard lock-down more times than a tornado drill. I remember three kids from my own childhood had gun 'accidents', more than anyone hurt playing with matches, talking to strangers, or experimenting with drugs.

The Addamses
Adult Wednesday Addams was a you tube hit that I liked. I read today that the Addams Family Estate has sent Melissa Hunter a cease and desist and You Tube pulled all the videos. Fans immediately re-posted them, so if you google Adult Wednesday Addams, you can still watch a host of these videos. Some of the comments I read on Facebook regarding the quarrel:
M.N. "Some people just don't understand publicity. They wanna hoard their ideas and allow them to collect dust. Ignorance and stubbornness are a toxic combination, yo.
H.R. "ridiculous... Others have posted season 1 and 2 but this isn't the first person to have their videos pulled for parody."
N.L. "This makes me very angry"
I'm appalled that people feel entitled to other's ideas like this. I have great respect for the Addams Family and their Estate. While I adore the Adult Wednesday Addams series, if the Addams Family feels the character is too true to the original version and isn't enough of a parody to be a departure then they are entitled to decide how the character is presented or not. Perhaps the Addamses would prefer not to be exploited in fan-fiction like the Star Wars Empire or the Super Hero Complex because... well, I'd say they don't even need to give a reason, it's their right to decide.
While I understand once you send art out into the world it's hard to know how people will feel about it and who it will be shared and re-interpreted by, I stand with the cartoonist's family on this one, out of respect, adoration and some semblance of decorum and legality. Though I'd like to see more of the series - I understand why it's been locked down. We are not entitled to be the voyeurs of Wednesday Addams or any other person in the family, fiction or non, just because we love it.

The Day After
I sat up late last night, like too many nights in my life, watching things burn on the television. Switching between CNN and Fox News and C-Span, tabs open to Twitter, Livestream and Facebook, wondering if the chaos would come to our front door. I remembered a time when we were at work, with radios on in offices, and televisions on in the break rooms, and loved ones on the phones, watching things crumble and trying to find out if everyone was accounted for. This is how we are trained to find the truth now. A press conference, and then we stick news channels in every orifice, and watch the live feed waiting for the anchor to confirm the the flames in front of our eyes.
In the quiet morning over coffee, I look out to make sure the world is there and sit down to read what headlines were crafted while I dreamed away the smoke. We go on to work and school and sorting socks, the chaos at bay far beyond side-walks that need to be shovelled. We type thoughts out into the communal water cooler of the internet, and eagerly read through the sides of our eyes others' posts, all the while thinking carefully about the world. We will talk about, how to talk about, how to talk about, how to talk about, why we stayed up late watching things burn, to our children.

Clueless, Unfunny & Gross
So this comedian I sorta liked tweeted this stuff two days ago about a very nice African-American lady that works on ESPN
Pretty offensive right? So people get mad, ESPN says he can no longer go on their network, cue thousands of internet trolls crying about freedom and comedy. Then the comedian issues this asinine statement:
"I'm about to say a few things I can't believe have to be explained in a rational world. I observed that Cari Champion was a gorgeous lady. I then thought it would be funny to tweet JOKES about that observation. A decision which might be the end of modern comedy. I would rather load trucks for a living then ever apologize to one of these awful PC groups ruining the country. So that's a NO. But if it upset the lady in question that's another story. Let me say to Cari Champion if this hurt u in any way I'm sorry. I'm a comedian. Sometimes I'm funny! For the record my moms disgusted w the tweets. But if I based my humor on my mom I'd be broke.
They're now telling me I can't appear on @Midnight tonight cause of the pressure they're getting from these groups. But who cares. I love the show & it's my living but who cares. These groups have won again. All I care about is Cari Champion. Truly. But I'm sure you'll be ok. You're gorgeous & talented. I hope that didn't offend u. To the PC army. Congrats! U won again! We don't want a hand up, or a hand out, we just need to be paid a fair wage for this hole we've been digging for you.
You've read the story... struggling adult doesn't know how she's going to make it until random stranger tips her $1,000.00 / until football player pays for the kid's operation / until anonymous angel buys her groceries / until undercover boss pays her house off and sends all the kids to college and gives her the first vacation in her life. It's a story that's supposed to warm your heart and make you feel great about humanity and inspire you to maybe pay it forward. Get out there and give, change a life by throwing a couple hundred dollars at a poor person, save someone from the brink of ruin.
I can't help it every time I read one of these stories I get seriously pissed off. What about the millions of people who didn't get that magic windfall?
People should be able to work hard and pay for their own. A bartender should be able to afford a few appliances, a waitress should be able to buy Christmas presents, but we now live in a society where basic needs can't be met by people who work their asses off. People we see every day, the cashier, the gardener, the lady wiping the snot of your kid's nose at preschool. I'm supposed to be all choked up at the sudden un-freezing of Scrooge's tiny cold heart at the end of Undercover Boss - instead I am pissed that we are in a place where folks can't afford to buy their own house any more or afford to pay for schooling.
The people on the top get to feel good for throwing a few scraps to the people at the bottom and the people at the bottom are supposed to thank them and be ever so grateful for that angel who paid for their coffee and we area all supposed to clap and cheer about this heart-warming scene when instead we should ALL be outraged that not every American can afford coffee.
Please understand, I'm not trying to discourage charity or paying it forward, or big tippers, I'm just saying we should all be ashamed that are so many opportunities in this country to rescue. We should stop feeling all warm and fuzzy on the inside when we read these stories and instead opt for frustration and outrage that the relief was needed at all. A thousand dollars here, eighty thousand there... it's pennies barely missed falling from the top earners' wallets, into a vast bucket of need. Working Americans need a bigger more permanent rescue than a nice tip or a tax credit, we need a living wage.

The Sugars
One of the things I'm trying to do lately is give up some of the sugar in our lives. Or at the very least be aware of when we are using it. Like buying cereal with no sugar but then spooning some right onto it. It seems less processed and less sneaky. I've been reading labels like mad at the store and sugar or some other form of it

brown rice syrup,

corn sweetener,
crystalline fructose,
dextran,
diastatic malt powder,
ethyl moltol,
fructose,

rice bran syrup,
sorghum,

is in EVERYTHING. So I'm just shopping for things with one or two ingredients. Not including bread and a few treat type things for the kids. It's hard. The kids aren't happy. But they aren't going to starve. There is plenty of food in there, just not what they want. It's been a crabby week and the Nutella is gone already. Hopefully in a few more weeks, we'll all feel better.

I support the fight for 15.
Not only are the fast food workers trying to strike and raise wages but the home health care workers have joined in and are trying to be a part of the union too.
52% of the families of front-line fast-food workers are enrolled in one or more public programs, (compared to 25% of the workforce as a whole.) The cost of public assistance to families of workers in the fast-food industry is nearly $7 billion per year.
96% of restaurant workers do not earn paid sick days, forcing 76% to work WHILE SICK.
57.4% of low wage workers are over age 30

Temporary Public Art outside of Bennie's Cleaners in Rockford, IL. This is part of Rockford's ART ATTACK series going on all summer. This is one of three I've done down-town. The unofficial title is "Red's Little Black Heart", it's acrylic paint on glass.

Boots
Of five shoe stores in town I found one pair of boy's snow boots toddler size 10 for $39.99 and got a lead on another pair at another store for $69.99. We looked at literally walls of girl's boots by the hundreds all sparkly and lighting up, full of characters and exotic furs in every color, lacing, zipping and velcro-ing this way and that in a veritable playground of fasteners. For boys, the aesthetic choices dwindle to a meager; cars, super hero, or camouflage pull-on style and if you narrow that down even further to an actual size the choices were none and none.
When I got in the car and called the place with Footwear in the name of the store, the clerk offered the only pair of boy's toddler boots they had on the shelf, but they were a size too small and would I like to put a hold on them anyway?... I declined to pounce on the idiotic opportunity to have her take something I could never use and hoard it behind the counter awaiting my desperate arrival. I'm not sure if she expected me to buy boots too small for my boy and jam his foot in there anyway or if she was just on autopilot but I was clearly the only one bothered by the suggestion.
He's going to wear them for four months tops if he doesn't outgrow them first. They need to entice him enough for him to want to wear them. I just want him to have a fluffy pair of mukluks in a racy red for sledding in.
